Do you want to know a secret?

We all have been entrusted with keeping a secret. Daddy Bub use to tell me that the only way you can trust a friend with a secret is to tell them a lie. If he keeps it secret, then tell him the truth! There are many reasons why we attempt to consciously conceal aspects of our life from others. Often times we are ashamed of previous actions, we may be fearful of rejection, harassment, acceptance or even violence. Keeping a secret can become mysterious. Think about “family secrets.” Family members agree to never discuss disagreeable issues concerning the family, sometimes even within the family! Revealing the family secret can be disgraceful – possibly even damaging the family honor. The family secret may even be something as trivial as a recipe. How many times have you said, “I know something you don’t.” We all have a tendency of boasting about a secret.

But what about animals? Do they share secrets? Of course they do!! Birds attempt to hide their nest from predators. Coyotes hide the location of their den, fearing discovery. Even squirrels bury their nuts, hiding them, and then try to remember their locations later. I submit the following sequence of photographs proving that humans are not the only ones who can share a secret…

Come on Bailey! Have I got a secret for you!

She did WHAT?

I am not kidding!

That is not what I heard!

Holy smokes! I cannot believe she did that!

I cannot wait to tell Pony Boy!

Special thanks to Leicalady for capturing the photographs. It would be a secret if I claimed to be the photographer…
